Modular Medical Announces Pivot Tubeless Insulin Patch Pump Now Commercially Available in the United States

5 Reasons Investors Are Watching Modular Medical, Inc.

FDA-Cleared Pivot Pump Commercially Available - Modular Medical received 510(k) clearance for the Pivot tubeless insulin patch pump in April 2026 and announced commercial availability in the United States in June 2026, marking the company's formal transition from a development-stage to a commercial-stage medical device company.

Targeting the "Almost-Pumper" Market - Approximately 70% of insulin-dependent adults rely on multiple daily injections rather than pump therapy due to complexity, cumbersomeness, and cost. Modular Medical directly addresses all three barriers with a simplified, removable, and affordable design, targeting a $3 billion addressable opportunity.

Reusable Architecture and Cost Advantage - Unlike competing patch pumps that discard all electronics every three days, the Pivot uses a reusable controller paired with disposable components, creating a significantly more affordable and less wasteful solution. The design supports a recurring consumables revenue stream from existing users.

Founder Pedigree and Industry-Validated Leadership - Paul DiPerna, founder and President, previously founded Tandem Diabetes Care (TNDM) and invented the t:slim insulin pump, which went public at a $450 million IPO in 2013. COO Kevin Schmid held senior operations roles at Insulet Corporation and helped develop the Omnipod system, giving the company deep competitive insight.

Payor Coverage Interest and Scalable Manufacturing - A proprietary payor survey showed that payors representing approximately 50 million covered lives were willing to grant equivalent or preferential coverage for the company's product feature set. Phillips-Medisize, a Molex company, serves as tier-one manufacturing partner with initial capacity supporting approximately 6,000 users and a scalable low-cost framework in place.

Products and Technology

  • The MODD1 is a two-part patch pump that received FDA 510(k) clearance in September 2024. It features a three-part system with one reusable component and two disposable components, a one-button interface, smartphone connectivity, and a 90-day reusable controller paired with a 3-day disposable cartridge and set.

  • The Pivot is the company's next-generation fully tubeless, removable patch pump. It integrates the set into the device body, eliminating tubing entirely, and features a 3 mL detachable insulin reservoir, no battery recharging requirement, smartphone connectivity for bolus dosing, and one-button bolus capability without a separate controller.

  • The Pivot received FDA 510(k) clearance on April 9, 2026 and was announced as commercially available in the United States on June 24, 2026, making it only the second fully electronic, tubeless insulin pump available in the country.

  • The company's reusable pump architecture is designed to provide a significant cost advantage over competitive all-disposable patch pumps, with the reusable controller lasting 90 days and disposable components replaced every three days.

  • Modular Medical also intends to pursue CE mark clearance for both the MODD1 and Pivot products to access European markets.

Market Strategy and Commercial Rollout

  • Modular Medical is targeting the large and underserved population of insulin-dependent adults who have been unable or unwilling to adopt existing pump therapy, a segment the company calls "almost-pumpers," across both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes markets.

  • The Pivot's commercial launch is rolling out in phases, initially targeting select high-volume endocrinology practices with broader expansion across multiple metropolitan markets expected by late 2026.

  • The company launched a dedicated patient-facing website, PivotPump.com, in June 2026 to support individuals seeking information about insulin pump therapy.

Positioning for Commercial Growth

  • Modular Medical transitioned from a development-stage to a commercial-stage company upon the Pivot's launch in June 2026, with the full commercial expansion targeting select high-volume endocrinology practices and then broadening to metropolitan markets by late 2026.

  • Phillips-Medisize, a Molex company, serves as tier-one manufacturing partner, providing injection molding, electronics design and manufacturing, packaging, and assembly capabilities, with initial production capacity supporting approximately 6,000 users.

  • The company is pursuing insurance reimbursement pathways to reduce co-payment burdens on patients, which it identifies as a core component of expanding adoption. A payor survey showed willingness to grant preferential coverage for a discount of approximately 20% among payors covering roughly one-third of total U.S. covered lives.
